DIY PINA COLADA DOG TREATS

SHARE THE TROPICAL JOY WITH YOUR FUR BABIES !

With Christmas and New Years passed, the joys of winter festivities are really starting to fade.  Instead we’ve started to slowly bring some of our favorite summer treats into our routine, yearning for warmer days to come.  One such favorite quick summer treat we love to enjoy all year round is a delicious tropical pina colada, but would it be fair to enjoy all that coconut and pineapple goodness while man’s best friend, our poor pup, can’t join in the pre-emptive summer fun? Well fortunately for them, we’re going to share the perfect summer-inspired and dog-friendly treat for your fur baby-and it’s only three ingredients!

These treats are super simple to make and dog friendly. They also include coconut oil that can be great for dogs skin and fun in moderation! As a disclaimer, we are not vets and with everything you offer your dog, ask your vet for professional advice on what is or isn’t appropriate for your own dog! With that, let’s get started!

How to make Pina Colada Dog Treats

Let's get down to business! Here’s what you’ll need:
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil-feel free to replace some or all the coconut oil with coconut water
  • 2 tablespoons diced pineapple
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons shredded coconut (optional)
  • a silicone mould to shape the treats
  • Measure out your coconut oil and place in a larger bowl for mixing.
  • Microwave the coconut oil to melt it in 30 second intervals. If you are using coconut water you can skip this step
  • Prepare your silicone mold by laying it on a small baking sheet or something else that is stiff for easy transfer to the refrigerator.
  • Dice up the pineapple so it is small enough to fit in the molds.
  • Sprinkle the shredded coconut and pineapple into each mold.
  • Pour the melted coconut oil into each mold, up to the top.
  • Transfer the treats to the refrigerator (approximately 4 hours) or freezer (approximately 1 hour) until set. We recommend the freezer if you used coconut water
  • Pop the dog treats out of the mold and store in the freezer in a container or bag until ready to be served to your pup!
